# A Postcard from Palenque #5

I hadn’t actually intended to post a series on Palenque. I’d merely wanted to share some interpretive work with readers because so little has been on the subject, but recent successes have increased my curiosity, and my confidence that maybe the answers are attainable.

Something else that provides some encouragement and intrigue is the particular occurrence of various specific measurements in multiple structures.

Temple 14 (Temple del Sacerdote)

Temple XIV (Temple del Sacerdote) is another Palenque temple that seems to feature the 2.36 m measure (width of Room 1) that I am interpreting as sqrt 60 in feet (metrologically this is apparently Thom’s “Mid-Clyth Quantum”, which recently may have been traced back to a putative Egyptian Sacred Cubit).

The widths of the three exterior doors are intriguing

Central door 3.27 m = 10.72834646

South door 1.67 m = 5.479002625

North door 1.75 m = 5.741469816

Expressing Saturn’s Orbital Period as ~10759 / 10^n with the width of the central door would call for a measure of about 3.279, an error of about .004-.009 m that might have been caused by rounding.

2000 / 5.479002625 = 365.0299401, so the presence of the Solar Calendar Year appears to be almost equally obvious here, although caution is advised because especially as we see more examples of the Maya using reciprocating equations, we may wish to observe that 10 Pi / 5.741469816 = 5.471756805, and that might be what they intended here even if it has a curious effect on the Solar Year value, making it harder to recognize or accept as such unless we make extra effort to understand why such a figure was tolerated.

It may still be possible they did something surprising, like Pi / (2000 / 365.0200808 = 5.479150614) = 5.733722021, but so far I’ve stuck by the figures 10 Pi / 5.741903085 = 5.471343920 for years now, for a number of reasons, as popular Mayan numbers.

5.471343920^2 = Squared Munck Megalithic Yard Squared / 10 = 7.396853331^2 / 10, so 5.471343920 comes with a valid square root that is quite interesting and useful (we now know the Squared Munck Megalithic Yard is 9 / 1 Remen in feet, 9 / 1.216733603 = 7.396853331 – technically it may not even be a Megalithic Yard then but it is an amazing number and a brilliant discovery on Munck’s part).

5.741903085 first found some favor because 50 / 5.741903085 = 8.707914302, the curious door height of Tikal Temple II that affords us the equation

Height 8.707914302 / Width 7.396853331 = 1.177245771

Observing the interactions between candidate numbers seems to show that 2000 / 365.0200808 = 5.479150614 is actually a poor interaction partner for the ideal representation of the Saturn Orbital Period, (1 / sqrt 8640) x 10^n = 10758.28707, while 5.471343920 interacting with 10758.28707 produces some important and classic numbers.3.477690289

The door to the front room from Room 2 is said by Andrews to be 1.06 m wide = 3.477690289 ft, looking rather like it was intended to represent the Eclipse Year.

The length of the sanctuary contained in Temple XIV is intriguing, it’s given as 3.44 m = 11.28608924. It’s too large to be half the Venus Orbital Period, but it’s coming to light lately that figures like this may be forms of the Lunar Year / Pi: 11.28608924 x 10 Pi = 354.5629504, possibly suggesting the Lunar Year of 354.367 rather than the “Lunar Calendar Year” as I call it, of 354 days.

5.741469816 is repeated in the sanctuary as its overall depth, and in Room 4 there are appears to be another instance of the 1 / (Pi / 2) x 10 figure we have seen before in this series in other architecture at Palenque (1.94 m). The length of Room 3 is also a relatively novel figure of 5.01 m = 16.43700787 ft. It would be easy to take this for 1/2000th of the squared Radian

(the Radian 57.29577951)^2 / 2000 = 1.641403175

or perhaps some other possible form of ancient meter, but other valid figures may merit consideration also, such as perhaps 1.643745184 or 1.644934067.

In Room 1 of Temple 14, we may see the same surprise figure again that we saw in Part 3 of this series, 1.989436789 (at the Temple of the Lion) and here the suggested method of generating it is interesting given what it’s built out of

2 x 1.622311470 x sqrt 60 = 251.3274122 = (2 Pi) x 4 = 5 / 1.989436789

In Room 2, there seems to be fairly blatant homage to some form of the Half Venus Cycle, which was apparently repeated in Room 4

w x l = 8.234908136 (2.51) x 6.397637795 (1.95) = 52.683959529 = (1 / 18981.10941) / 19^n

The form of Half Venus Cycle (Calendar Round) that may have been used here could be the B form, which given some of the components would facilitate the presence of this premium data

8.2683404451 / (1 / sqrt 60) = 6.404628969
8.2683404451 x (1 / sqrt 60) = 10.67438159

Because 8.2683404451 x (1 / (Pi / 2)) = 5.2637890166 = 1 / 18997.72194 HVC B

The original estimate, 8.234908136 ft (2.51 m) is also near to 1 / 1.216733603 = 8.218725919 (half of 164.37465184, see above), but this does not provide us with a Half Venus Cycle figure when combined with 1 / (Pi / 2).

Interestingly if we test 8.268340448 against the Saros Cycle,

8.2683404451 x 6585.3211 = 346.6374085 / (Pi / 2)

Nodal Cycle 6793 d / 8.268340448 = ~1 / 1.216733603.

It’s not perfectly clear yet, but 8.268340448 may also speak to the Metonic Cycle and the Full Moon Cycle, as well as other astronomical data figures.

8.268340448, by the way, is twice the figure of 4.134170223, which bears remarkable resemblance to a “unifying value” in Peter Harris and Normal Stockdale’s book, Astronomy & Measurement in Megalithic Architecture.

The Jupiter Synodic Period

I’m further intrigued by suggestions of Jupiter’s Synodic Period in some of Palenque’s temples. The Jupiter Synodic Period – textbook value 398.88 days – tends to get overlooked somewhat, which makes it that much more interesting.

In Palenque Temple 12 (Temple of the Skull), the length/width ratio of Room 1 calculates as l / w = 9.58 / 2.40 = 3.9916666666,

The height / width ratio of this room calculates as h / w = 2.58 / 2.40 = 1.0750000000 ft, very suggestive of Saturn’s Orbital Period of 10,759.22 days / 10^n.

In Room 2 of the same structure, the product of width x height calculates as

w x h = 7.545931759 (2.30 m) x 5.741469816 (1.75 m) = 43.324739427 ft – the Orbital Period of Jupiter is 4332.59 days – and the length of Room 4 is given by George Andrews as 1.32 m = 4.330708661 ft.

In Temple 13, the length of Room 1 is 12.19 m = 39.99343823 ft.

Temple 13 seems to also be equipped with measures of sqrt 60 ft and (1 / 1.622311470) x 10 ft, and what may be 8.005786193 recurring repeatedly (7.5 Hashimi Cubits = 7.5 x 1.067438159 = 8.005786193.

The length x width product is l x w = 9.481627297 (2.89) x 8.005249344 (2.44) = 75.902790699, and if we adjust this

((1 / (1.315947254) x 10^n – 75.99088770) / 8.005249344 = 9.491995621 = 18983.99124 / 2 / 10

In Room 4, the length x width product calculates as

l x w = 97.44094488 (2.97) x 8.005249344 (2.44) = 780.03906007, Mars Synodic Period 779.96 days.

In Temple 14, the length/ width ratio of Room 3 is

l / w = 5.01 m / 2.51 m = 16.43700787 ft / 8.234908136 ft = 1.9960159362 = 399.2031873 / 2

In the Temple of the Inscriptions, the length x width oproduct is

l x w = 11.87664042 (3.62 m) x 6.725721785 (2.05 m) = 79.87897920 [~399 x 2]

They seem to be showing us that we can build it from (12 x Pi^2) and important ratio between at least two important sets of calendar figures including Half Venus Cycle / Venus Orbital Period and what I am taking to be 57.29577951 x 1.177245771 = 3 x Venus Orbital Period 224.8373808 = 67.45121412

(12 x Pi^2) x 67.45121412 =339.4300799 x 4

Kind of reminds me of Rio Bec, which is actually where I learned that 12 x Pi^2 is involved in these things.

We recently encountered at Palenque what looks like 360 / 1.351926225 = 2662.874290 / 10^n.

266.2874290 x 1.5 = 399.4311435 which is thought to be one of the primary approximations for representing the Jupiter Synodic Period (experimentally it’s the B value, so the A value will be 399.4311435 / 1.000723277 = 399.1413901).

There are of course other apparent calendar references in this collection of Palenque temples – one of them possibly Mars’ Orbital Period in the Temple of the Inscriptions, Room 1 length (raw data) 68.7992126 – but this has already given us much to think about.

Although some of this may be rather impressive, presumably much is still missing from the picture as to why certain numbers were grouped together like this. I will have to decide, though, whether to continue on with Palenque, or whether it might be more important to continue on with other , more neglected sites instead.
